E-Mail
Here are some of the many free e-mail providers that will give you a free e-mail account.
Most of these services are supported by advertising. They are rated based on their features,
as well as site design and other importanta criteria.
EmailChooser.com
- I have to say that this is the ultimate resource for finding e-mail addresses with unique domains. EmailChooser.com is a huge directory of more than 1600 domains that you can get free e-mail from. The domains are quite diverse, ranging from artfanatic.net to beauty-queen.org, with just about everyting inbetween.
FEPG - Free Email Providers Guide
- This is a good resource for finding the perfect e-mail provider for you. Their database includes more than 1400 e-mail providers from around the world.
Webmail.com
- Webmail.com is a handy tool for reading e-mail when you're away from your computer. However, they do require a lot of personal information from you on their sign-up page.
Lycos Communications Rating: 10/10 you@lycos.com
- Lycos combines e-mail, voicemail and instant messengeing into one excellent website.
Mail.com Rating: 9/10 you@mail.com
- Mail.com is a fair e-mail provider with lots of domains to choose from.
They can redirect to other mail accounts.
In my experices with Mail.com I have had difficulty getting free POP3 access.
Compustream Rating: 9/10you@compustream.net
- This free e-mail site looks to be a quite good service - you get 6MB of space, POP3 service, and "superior virus protection" according to it's webmaster.
Shymail Rating: 8/10 you@shymail.com
- This free e-mail provider offers 2.5 MB of storage space and a typical web-based interface. This service also supports checking multiple POP accounts from its web-based interface. However, there are some restrictions on business use.
Hotmail Rating: 8/10 you@hotmail.com
- Hotmail is the world's largest free email provider with over 70 million users.
As a result, it is impossible to get a mail address remotely close to any real name or word. A footer is attached to outgoing Hotmail messages.
Yahoo! Mail Rating: 8/10 you@yahoo.com
- Like Hotmail, many addresses at this famous domain are taken. Yahoo!
also places an advertisement for other parts of the Yahoo! portal on outgoing messages.
Usa.net Rating: 7/10 you@usa.net
- This is a popular web-based e-mail service, though nothing stands out about it.
Digiverse Online Rating: 7/10 you@digiverse.net
- A typical everyone.net webmail setup that accompanies a site featuring a lot of syndicated news headlines. They claim to have six times more disk space than Hotmail with bigger file attachments and less spam in their advertisement.
Cuddlefish.com Rating: 5/10 you@cuddlefish.zzn.com
- This appears to be a typical co-branded Zap Zone Network e-mail site. While Zap Zone Network does offer a pretty good service, it would probably be quite confusing to have an e-mail address on a subdomain.
